“Macross” from France sent me the photos of his Saabs – nice going!
Egill from Island sent me these photos. He owned one of the two 1966 Saab 96 Monte Carlos imported to Iceland that year as new. Now, years later he has been able to track down and purchase both cars! The plan is to completely restore at least one of them, maybe both. Egill contacted me about some parts and I forwarded him to the international guy in the Saab club of Finland (Monte Carlos are exceedingly rare in Finland) to help with the parts. Some photos:
Good luck on the project Egill!
Saab 96 V4 Rally car in the Neste Rally Finland 60th Anniversary Cavalcade. A few special stages were driven for show - not full speed. I was fortunate enough to get on the co-drivers seat on one special stage. Here’s some footage along the way.
This was the first car built for the Finnish Works Rally Team in 1970 and the driver Leo Kinnunen to compete in the Rally Of The Thousand Lakes that year (today Neste Rally Finland). The car is currently owned and raced in the Historic Class by Tomi Tikanmäki.
Note also our “service truck”, a next generation, 2010 Saab 9-5
It is the first one imported to Finland! Straight from the harbour, only 400 kilometers under the belt. I also got to drive that one – I have to say it’s a very impressive (and HUGE) car!
I have forgotten to upload this clip of a Saab 96 Turbo I saw at a Saabclub event last year. Very nicely executed sleeper
Athanassios’ from Greece sent me these photos of his Saab 96 1962.

Excellent photos!
John Pape from UK sent me photos of his very nice 1962 two-stroke Saab.
Here’s John’s comments:
I own a 1962 96. It is a standard right hand drive car with the single
carb engine. It was completely rebuilt by a Saab dealership in the early
70’s and has lead a quiet life ever since. I bought the car last year
from the 3rd owner.

Thanks for the photos John!
